Holiday Season Decorating Touches That Will Make Your Home Stand Out

The holiday season is a great excuse to decorate your home. Twinkling Christmas lights, statues of snowmen. Whatever your personal beliefs, there’s a way to invoke a sense of warmth and tradition into your home decorations. Some families take decorating their homes so seriously that it’s treated almost like a job. Preparations are made months in advance. A significant amount of money and time is invested. Your own decorations don’t have to be elaborate. The goal is simply to put a smile on your face. For many people, simple holiday touches can brighten their day.

So what should you do? Here are a few ideas.

Use Lights

Holiday lights are a fun way to express your creativity. Your design can be as simple or as elaborate as you’d like. Simply stringing the lights along the trees in your yard or on your fireplace can produce a charming effect.

If you want to have a lot of fun with your holiday lights, you can create an entire scene from a fairy tale. There are extensive guides online you can follow about how to create a stunning light display.

Add Color

Many people associate red and green with the holiday season but those are far from your only color choices. You can pick a fall-themed scheme heavy with oranges and browns. Or, you can go with a winter palette and prioritize icy whites and pale blues. What gets you into the holiday season?

To add bits of color to your home, try introducing things like rugs and tapestries.

Decorate the Table

If you normally have informal meals, start setting the table. You can use holiday-themed silverware and decorations. For instance, you can use a red tablecloth and pure white china. It’s an easy habit can elevate your family meals.

Use Candy

Everybody loves sweets. Use candy canes and tinsel as decorations. You can hang them from your walls or along your dressers. Candy is cheap and incredibly easy to work with. You don’t need to be a skilled designer to lay out your candy canes in a visually appealing way.

Add a Few Plants

Mistletoe, pine sprigs, wreaths. There are numerous plants that evoke a holiday feeling. Many of the plants have a rich, interesting tradition behind them. Indoor plants require maintenance to thrive but since you only want the effect temporarily you can buy clipped plants rather than ones still growing in their soil.

The holiday season is one of the most joyous times of the year. Your home’s decorations can reflect that spirit if you want. One of the most fun aspects of the experience is that it’s temporary. You can turn your home into Santa’s wonderland if you want and it’s okay.
